My Take on AlDub: Five Reasons Why We Love Them

I belong to the growing number of Filipinos obsessing over the new loveteam sensation that is spreading influence like wildfire over the internet – the AlDub of Eat Bulaga. Since I cannot watch EB on lunch break, I satisfy myself with the videos going viral on my Facebook newsfeed as soon as I come home. Honestly, catching up with the latest episode is slowly becoming a routine. I am hooked.

Alden Richards, one of Kapuso’s leading male stars and Yaya Dub, or Maine Mendoza in real life and is known for her funny collection of dubsmash videos, has taken the internet by a storm. Sabi nga, their onscreen love story is purely accidental, unplanned and without script.

Now on their first monthsary, the trending Kalyeserye has already captured not just the hearts of pabebe teens but of OFWs, the jeepney drivers, construction workers, office clerks and call center agents, among others!

Bakit nga kaya? What’s with their on-screen romance na talaga namang nakakahumaling? AlDub got me wondering:

1. We are a nation who values love and relationship too much kaya ganun na lang ang suporta natin. When it comes to love, economic status doesn’t really matter. We still believe that Cinderella-kind of love stories are still possible, kahit pa against all odds ang kwento. In short, madali lang talaga tayong pakiligin.

Power of Love ika nga. As of writing, di pa sila nagkikita niyan a!

Walang script na sinusundan ang isang relationship, at higit sa lahat you can be as natural as you are. And one more important hugot, their pang-masa setting, sa kalye is where most of love stories flourish and bloom. Di ba nakakatuwa?

I am a fan, and I enjoin thousands (or maybe millions) of Filipinos united with hashtags and kilig on our very own on-screen couple. Iba to!
