I stumbled upon this blog link-up series called  #YouBlogYou where you just blog about yourself as a blogger. I believe that through this series, I’d be able to know myself more when it comes to blogging. Through this series, I’m pretty sure I’ll learn a lot from my fellow, more experienced bloggers.

You Blog You Vol 1This series requires us to answer 11 questions in relation to our blog itself or as a blogger personally. Let’s get it on!

1. What inspired you to blog?

I really love to write. Prior to blogging, most of my poems and notes were written on a tickler or at the back of my high school “Bayani Fernando” notebook. Initially blogosphere for me is a place to preserve my poems but when my friends started to give comments for my write-ups, I am encouraged to blog so I can share my ideas, reflections and random thoughts inside my head.

2. When did you start blogging?

I can no longer remember the exact year but I began posting articles online since Multiply days. Then come Facebook Notes. I am actually double-minded when it comes to where I want to post my posts, hopping from Weebly to Blogspot and finally to free WordPress (right now I am still contemplating to revert my page to Blogspot again), so I find it hard to trace back when was the first time I started blogging. Only this year I’ve resolved to blog on a more serious note.

3. What’s the topic you enjoy blogging the most?

I am a reflective person and so most of my blogs are about my personal devotions and spiritual reflections. I also enjoy writing about relationships and any significant life events I can relate to what I read from the Bible. So basically my niche is more on inspirational posts.

4. How long does it usually take you to finish a blog post?

Haha! When procrastination takes the best of me, I usually spend a week or more for a single topic though it keeps on lingering on my mind. But when my creative juices keep on oozing, I can finish a post in a day or two, especially when I have my Aha! moments.

5. If you were to name three (3) goals you want your blog to achieve next year, what would it be?

  1. Consistent blog posting!
  2. Significant increase in pageviews and subscriptions
  3. Do sponsored posts

6. Does your family know about your blogging career? Why or why not?

Yes, they know about me blogging but they see it only as my hobby. While they know that I blog, they care less about what I write and they don’t read my blogposts mainly because my parents are not into internet or social media and my brother has different interests.

7. Which blog or blogger inspires you the most?

My friend and co-writer on our student publication, Aika Loraine  has inspired me to be active in blogging again. Then I was introduced to Doc. Eamer and his group of bloggers Philippine Singles Association, now my circle of blogger friends. When it comes to content and presentation, I admire Ms. Rej’s superaena.com because of its neatness and striking photographs, something that I really want to apply on my own blog.

8. What is the greatest achievement your blog has received? If you haven’t got any, what would be the achievement you’d want to receive?

I haven’t received any achievement yet aside from the usual notifications from my free WordPress but if there’s a roster for the most influential bloggers in the Philippines, I’d love to belong on that list.

9. What is your best viewed post? Share it with us by providing a hyperlink and a short description about it.

I don’t have wide readership yet so my best viewed (in my case, commented) post is in Facebook Notes, entitled Letter to my God’s Will. As the title implies, this is my hopeless romantic litany to and for my future someone. First published December 29, 2009, I tried to re-publish it using my WP blog. My post about AlDub and Why We Love Them also rode the bandwagon, and I think there is no need for an explanation why it ranks as one of my best viewed WP post.

10. If you were to give out three (3) advises for newbie bloggers, what would it be?

  1. Content and consistency plays a major role for your exposure
  2. Be friendly with other bloggers. Interact, be courteous and be an encouragement to other bloggers
  3. Just pour out your heart to what you are doing. Nothing is more rewarding than doing what you love most.

11. If you were to give out three (3) advises for yourself as a blogger, what would it be?

  1. Be consistent. Utang na loob. Haha!
  2. Never stop learning! Allot time for self-development and stick to it.
  3. You have something to say. Never believe the idea that your voice is insignificant. Minsan kasi I feel so insecure.

That’s it for now! Til next part of the series! 🙂

20 Facts About Me

The most important fact that I want to share is my faith. I am a Christian, and proud to be one.

I seldom take an inventory of my skills ans abilities, much more assess my personality. As far as I can remember, the last time I checked upon my “personality” and “intelligence” was way back February 2008.

Allow me to share 20 things I think people don’t know about me yet. Let’s get started!

1. My name’s Martin, not because of any patron saint or any valiant warrior but simply because I was born on a Tuesday – Martes. Creativity at its best.

2. I should have been named Ezekiel should my parents won over the name war with my lola. Oh, I have posted a separate blog just about this topic 🙂

3. There was a time in my life, during my elementary years, na hindi ako nasundo ng parents ko sa school until midnight! Good thing there was a group of teenage girls who, after their CAT class, took care of me for a couple of hours hanggang sa kailangan na talaga akong iwanan sa baranggay dahil uuwi na rin sila. No, I wasn’t abused of any sort, pero parang pang anime na rin ang eksena. Haha!

4. During elementary years as well, I use to buy La-La chocolates and sell them tingi-tingi sa mga classmates kong babae.

5. My first puppy love brought me places – literally.

6. During one of the lunch breaks, I brought my lunch and we’ve decided to eat together – me, my crush and two other friends. Haha! #awkward. Parang gusto kong lumubog sa lupa.

7. I vied for honors, and my rival is, again my crush.

9. Yung gagala ka sa neighborhood with your toga on  kasama ng buong tropa, wearing your ribbons, sampaguita garlands and medal. Squad goals ba kamo? I call that kahihiyan. Hahaha!

11. During highschool days, I think I have mastered the art of stalking. I always have a ready notebook to jot down the exact time and place I see my crush as well as thr exact conversation that we had, if there’s any. Ang creepy ko pala nun.

12. I have developed my passion to read books during these days. The first book I have enjoyed is the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and later on its sequels. I also had a taste of the classics – Jules Verne’s and Charles Dickens’, of which Tale of Two Cities (not Cuties) is my favorite.

13. During this season, I have also discovered my talent in writing poems and short stories. I was even tagged the “class poet” by my English teacher, which I find offensive then. Siguro dahil sa pagkakasabi niya. Haha! I have written my own version of ‘Click’ and ‘G-Mik’ story and my own ‘dragon-prince-princess’ genre.

14. I have written a short story titled “A Piece of String”, a requirement for my English class but I intended for my crush to read. However, upon reading it, she just commented, ‘di ko type’. Para na rin akong nabasted. Haha!

15. Sa sobrang kaadikan ko sa computer games, during examination week, while it is prohibited, nagpunta pa rin kami sa computer shop, and poof!

16. It was highschool when I began to attend church regularly. But before that, I have met a friend from the Jehovah’s Witnesses who diligently follows up on me and answers all my questions on life and faith. But God has a better plan.

17. I really wanted to be an Electrical Engineer. But things went insane and I ended up taking Financial and Management Accounting. All I can remember is my shallow reasoning na – “ang ganda kasing pakinggan”.

18. During college, I joined a rally once in my life!

19. Ok seryoso na. My greatest desire is to be an influential writer in the field of Christian Literature. In fact I already have a concept for my book but until now I am still trying to make both ends meet to finish it.

20. The most important fact that I want to share is my faith. I am a Christian, and proud to be one. While my previous experiences contradict the faith I have just expressed, I know and I believe that I am not defined by who I am before, because I am now a new creation, redeemed for greater cause.

An Aid to the Memory

“I just wanted an avenue to write. I wanted a place where I can express my thoughts about matters that interests me. All I wanted to have a voice.”

“I just wanted an avenue to write. I wanted a place where I can express my thoughts about matters that interests me. All I wanted to have a voice.”

Basically most blogs fall into this category – which is true even in this site. The internet has given us a perfect venue to write about topics that can educate, entertain and escalate advocacies. That’s why I am grateful for the internet because my thoughts can go places. I can speak to people I have never met and share my ideas to people who has no relationship to me.

But aside from being my platform to the world wide web, this blog has one practical benefit to me – an aid to the memory (this calls for consistency though. Haha).

The term aide-mémoire (aid memoir) [now Hearts & Halo] is literally translated to memory aid, and is often used to refer to notes that are taken in order to jog one’s memory later.

I am a person who cannot handle too much information. I easily forget. There are even moments when I wanted to remember an incident so desperately but to no avail, and it frustrated me for a couple of days. Good thing that there is cure for forgetfulness – that is to have yourself reminded.

This blog serves a reminder of important moments, specifically the learnings brought about by different occasions in my life. This is my aid to the memory. And when my Aha! Moments come or my reflective alter-ego urges me to write, not only will I have a venue to express my thoughts – I also have a place to go to remind myself of the important milestones in my life.
