Rescued

Would you like to be rescued by Jesus and pass from death to life?

Day 2: God says you are…

RESCUED

Few years ago, mga 2008 yata, I was a part of a five-week Missions work to Zambales. Together with my friend Henry, our task is to gather the children and teach them Bible stories, teach them songs kahit pareho kaming may magagandang boses (kung di mo pa rin gets, pun intended po ito) and at least plant God’s word and in their hearts kahit sa mura nilang edad. On the average, the two of us were reaching out to at least 50-70 children a day, for five weeks. Minsan lumalagpas pa. Bukod sa laban ni Floyd Mayweather Jr. at ni Oscar dela Hoya noong panahong iyon na nandun kami, I will never forget about the privilege of introducing Christ in the lives of the children of Dingin, Iba, Zambales.

I don’t know how to swim properly, and soon enough the water became too deep for my feet to touch, I know I am next to drowning. In their panic, the children rushed to me, contributing to my struggle on making it to safety. I tell you, I have never been afraid all my life, not just for my own welfare but for 3-4 kids who clung to me that time. I prayed hard and tried to swim even harder. Praise the Lord, I made it out alive. Di na muna ulit ako bumalik ng dagat after that.

My story is a story of rescue. I was saved from the imminent danger I am facing during that time. Should I surrendered myself to the waves and stopped swimming hard to get myself to the shore, I know I couldn’t make it alive. Di ako marunong lumangoy pero pinilit ko.

He saw us desperately in need of help and offered his hand to rescue us. He willingly gave His own comfort, His own life to bring us to a place of safety. Instead of us swimming in the dire sea of destitution, He swam in it Himself and lifted us up and brought us to life.

However there is a situation na kahit anong pilit na langoy ang gawin ko – gawin natin, we can never save ourselves. We need to be rescued. We need to cross from one place to another, from a place of sheer desperation and helplessness to a place where we can find comfort and peace. We need to cross from a place where we are sure not to get out alive to a place where we know there is assurance of life. Yet to cross from that hopeless place to the place of safety cannot be done with our efforts, kahit gaanong langoy o kampay pa ng mga kamay at padyak ng paa. We cannot rescue ourselves – we need to be rescued.

This is when Christ entered the scene. He saw us desperately in need of help and offered his hand to rescue us. He willingly gave His own comfort, His own life to bring us to a place of safety. Instead of us swimming in the dire sea of destitution, He swam in it Himself and lifted us up and brought us to life. Oh, what a wonderful rescue.

Kung naranasan mo na ang maligtas sa tiyak na kapahamakan, you know how comforting it is to be rescued. How much more when you realize that Jesus Christ has rescued you (and is willing to rescue you) with a divine kind of rescue! Because of what He has done on the cross of Calvary, he has brought us from death to life, from a place of hopelessness to a place of eternal security and of peace. Would you like to be rescued by Jesus and pass from death to life? Ask Him to come into your heart today.

For He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Colossians 1:13-14

Trust His Heart

God sees the very intricate details of our heart, mind and emotions.

May mga Airmax, Roshe Run, Jordan at Under Armor – naku, kadami. Pero syempre, I am not vouching for the quality, even the aesthetics. I am actually not particular with the intricacies of shoes – design, quality, kung legit ba or not. I can’t even distinguish nga what’s fake from what’s original e. Kaya nga siguro madali akong mauto. Haha!

Trust His HeartWe can wear imitation products, or Class A’s, whatever you may call it, and still act as normal. Who would know and who cares kung fake ang suot mo? I guess no one would even bother to check whether what you’re wearing is legit or not. But when it comes to the Lord looking at us, He sees the legitimacy of our heart, mind and emotions. He plainly sees when we are faking things out or we are just going with the motions kahit na tayo ay nasa simbahan o saan mang lugar. He sees us so plain and naked, to the point that we can never hide anything from His sight. May tawag dito – omniscience.

And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13

Have you ever considered this thought? That God sees the very intricate details of our heart, mind and emotions. Alam Niya ang lahat sa atin. Alam Niya at wala tayong maitatago kahit ano.

  • Alam Niya na nagtatanim ka pa rin ng sama ng loob sa nanay mo, or sa tatay mo at kinikimkim mo iyan for the longest time dahil naghihintay ka ng pagkakataon na maipamukha mo sa kanila yung sakit na nararamdaman mo tuwing may maaalala ka from the past.
  • Alam Niya na inggit na inggit ka sa kaklase or sa officemate mong madalas na may bagong gadget, may latest travel escapades out of the country, may bagong post sa Instagram na bago na naman nilang discovered na restobar ng jowa niya. Nung una, it started with a wish na sana maexperience mo din ang nararanasan niya.

He knows everything, but does He even care?

Of course He does care. In fact even before we were born, He knew us already, and He cares for us.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13

Minsan mahirap unawain yung mga plano ni Lord for us. When all you can see is the mountain of difficulties, you would never witness the valley of success. I remember when my friends and I visited the Anawangin Cove in Zambales, we trekked the highest peak of the nearest “mini-mountain” (parang ang baba lang kasi tignan). Matarik, nakakapagod. Parang gusto na lang naming sumuko. Pero at the end, we are rewarded with a view that soothed away all our pagod and reklamo. Worth it, ika nga.

Pero pagdating sa peak, you will be rewarded with an adorable sight. Worth every sweat!

When it comes to God’s omniscience, it is comforting to know that He knows everything, and there is nothing that we can hide from His sight. When we feel weak and helpless, He knows it. When we feel so desperate for answers, He is aware of it. When the world seems to turn its back on you, He is present and is carefully watching You. We cannot fake ourselves before Him. He knows us full well and He knows what He is doing. So why not just trust Him completely?

Sabi nga sa isang kanta, when you can’t see His hands, trust His heart. He is the One who is omniscient, not us. So allow yourself to be vulnerable before the Lord and make Him work wonders in your life.

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” John 13:7
